Robin Duncan, Assistant Vice President of Community Relations

Robin Duncan has over 20 years of experience as a business consultant. Over the past 12 years, she has developed and implemented a number of community and business related programs for Mount Wachusett Community College. As Assistant Vice President of Community Relations, Robin oversees the college’s community and civic engagement initiatives, including the Center for Democracy and Humanity. Prior to her current role, she served as Director of Budgets, Grants and Contract Management and Assistant to the President for Special Projects. In that capacity, Robin monitored the compliance and fiscal controls for grants and contracts and developed the framework for the Community Scholars Program, as well as coordinated the Community College Leadership Academy between the 15 community colleges within Massachusetts. Upon receiving a HRSA federal grant to address the nursing shortage in the region, Robin served as Director of the Healthcare Pathway Program and was competitively selected to present at HRSA’s Annual Conference. She holds an M.B.A. from Anna Maria College and graduated from the UCLA/Johnson & Johnson HealthCare Executive Leadership Program. During her earlier years at MWCC, Robin served as Director of the Fitness and Wellness Center where she creatively converted an under-utilized, 60,000 square-foot state facility into a thriving and self-supporting, multi-functional center for the college and the community. Robin has served on a number of boards and is currently an active board member of the Boys & Girls Club of North Central Massachusetts, Community Builders, and MWCC Foundation. She serves as Vice Chair on the Executive Board for the Wachusett Chamber of Commerce and is an active committee participant for the United Way of North Central Massachusetts. Recently, Robin was recognized by the Girls Scouts of Central and Western Massachusetts as one of the region’s 2008 Women of Distinction.
Fagan Forhan, Director of Civic Engagement

With six years of experience working with the Massachusetts State Legislature as Chief of Staff for former State Rep. Brian Knuuttila, and nearly a decade working in public service in North Central Massachusetts, Fagan brings a unique perspective to the Center for Democracy and Humanity. She has worked closely with our elected officials at local, state and federal levels to bring a number of projects to fruition in the North Central region. In her capacity as Chief of Staff for the Representative, she served as a liaison to the State for local nonprofits and for constituents, bringing their budgetary priorities, concerns and ideas forth to the delegation and also mediated communications with state agencies. As a 1998 graduate of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst with a degree in Psychology, Fagan has consistently and passionately been involved in many facets of community service, and has served on numerous boards and committees. She is responsible for the oversight and coordination of Community Scholars, United Way Youth Venture, the ‘What’s Next Speaker Series’, Citizenship Academy and the Democracy Café.
Andrea Hart de Gravelle, Coordinator of Civic Engagement

Andrea Hart de Gravelle came to us with a clear passion for helping local communities. Before, during and after her college career at Fitchburg State College, she volunteered at many organizations including Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Thompson Island Outward Bound, Falmouth Recreation and Teen Center, Pacific Crest Outward Bound, Dornbeckers Children's Hospital Foundation, Kids Making Miracles and Susan B. Komen Foundation. She co-started a student coalition for Portland Public Schools during their budget cuts and is currently serving on the boards of the Cleghorn Neighborhood Center as secretary, The Partnership for Latino Success (formally known as the Twin Cities Latino Coalition), The Fitchburg Civic Council and several other committees in the region. Her skills include fundraising, community development, event planning, and being bilingual in Spanish. She is responsible for coordinating the Molly Bish Institute for Child Health and Safety and other civic engagement activities.
Jennifer Wiley-Cordone, Director of Capacity Building

Jennifer Wiley-Cordone is the Director of Capacity Building for the Institute for Nonprofit Development at Mount Wachusett Community College. Jennifer has Master’s Degrees in Women’s Studies and in Education Policy and Leadership from The Ohio State University. She has a background in ethics training and capacity building at the Education Development Center and experience in program management at LUK Crisis Center and the National Center for Hate Crime Prevention. Since 2001, Jennifer has facilitated participatory decision making and consensus process with large groups, primarily through her involvement with Mosaic Commons Cohousing.
Karin Oliveira, Director Community Builders

Karin Oliveira, directs Community Builders, a partnership between United Way of North Central Mass., Mount Wachusett Community College and Ashoka: Innovators for the Public. Community Builders provides a website, education, trainings and events to build the capacity and scope of volunteerism. Fellowships are awarded to foster social entrepreneurism and build social capital throughout the region.
Prior to Karin’s current position at Mount Wachusett Community College, she was directing a volunteer program at a non profit agency. Karin has been involved in the nonprofit sector and community development field for nine years. She has served as president of the Council of Directors of Volunteer Services. Currently, she serves on the Health and Wellness Task Force for Leominster Public Schools, the advisory committee of the U. Mass. Communities of Care Youth & Family Center North, the Day of Caring steering committee for the United Way and the development board for the Shine Initiative at Fidelity Bank.
Karin has been a keynote speaker at several community events and has co-facilitated a workshop nationally at the Points of Light conference on volunteerism and service with world renowned volunteer consultant, Susan Ellis.
Elizabeth Ashmore, Assistant Coordinator of Community Builders

Elizabeth Ashmore is the assistant coordinator for Community Builders, focused on providing North Central Massachusetts virtual access to volunteer opportunities, community events and regular spotlights of volunteers doing extraordinary work throughout the region. Elizabeth’s prior work as a project coordinator and career transitional specialist at the Grafton Job Corps enhances the quality of the Community Builders programming.
Elizabeth was born in Atlantic City New Jersey into a family of 12 brothers and sisters. Helping and inspiring others has always been a passion for her. Elizabeth directs the Children's Musical Group at Centro de Cultura Espirita Amalia Domingo Soler, Inc. The Children's Musical Group conducts events at local nursing homes and holds fundraisers for local shelters.
Nancy Hawkins, Staff Assistant, Center for Democracy and Humanity

Nancy joins the Center for Democracy & Humanity with 40 years of employment at MWCC and a wealth of administrative and organizational skills related to the college’s overall mission. Upon graduation from MWCC’s 2nd graduating class in 1967, with an Associate in Science Degree in the Executive Secretarial curriculum. Ms. Hawkins began her employment as Secretary to the Registrar and continued in that position for 18 years, ultimately serving as office supervisor. Between 1980-1982, Nancy served as Acting Registrar of MWCC. She then went on to become Secretary to the Transfer Counselor. In 1988, Ms. Hawkins moved to the Division of Planning & Development and remained there for 19 years. Recently, the Center of Democracy & Humanity welcomed Nancy as their Staff Assistant. She refers to herself as “part of the furniture” at MWCC due to her long-term employment. Nancy indicates it has been an “awesome experience” to have followed the Mount from the “olden days” at the Elm St. Campus to the 1972 move to the “New MWCC” and now into the “21st Century MWCC” where the College has continually maintained its competitive edge.
Rachel Andler, United Way Youth Venture Partner Specialist AmeriCorps*VISTA

Originally from Boston’s North Shore, Rachel Andler is the new United Way/Youth Venture Partner Specialist housed under Mount Wachusett Community College’s Center for Democracy and Humanity. Rachel just graduated from Loyola University New Orleans with a BA in English and a concentration in writing. She has lived in New Orleans, Louisiana for the past four years and has a rich background in social entrepreneurship. She has been involved with everything from The Heifer Project and Aids Quilt/Awareness to gutting and rebuilding houses post Hurricane Katrina. Rachel is happiest when she can roll up her sleeves, channel her creativity and really make a difference.
