How to apply

Applications are available from the office of College Access and Preparation Programs or by contacting Andrea Hart de Gravelle at: (978) 630-9458, or via email. Applicants must submit a minimum 200-500 word essay as part of their application that discusses the effects a selected current event has/has had on citizens in our community. Note that the MWCC application fee is waived for students applying to the Citizenship Academy. A parent or guardian signature is required for applicants under age 18.

Placement Testing

Placement testing is an important part of the application process to ensure students are prepared to succeed in the program. Testing will take place at Mount Wachusett Community College by appointment.

Acceptance

High school students who meet the placement testing requirement, have a GPA over 2.5, and submit the required essay will be considered for acceptance into the program.

Advising and Registration

Citizenship Academy students will meet with an advisor and register for the course, usually on the same day as their placement test. The advisor will meet with the students throughout the semester to follow their progress.

College Credit

When the class has been successfully completed, MWCC will award students three college credits which are transferable to most two- and four-year public and private colleges and universities.

Cost

As part of the college’s Decade of Civic Engagement, a grant from Learn & Serve through Rhode Island Campus Compact and the Center for Democracy and Humanity will cover the cost of tuition, fees, and materials for students who have been accepted into the program.

Transportation

Students are responsible for their own transportation. The MWCC Gardner campus is on the MART bus route; schedule information is available in the admissions office and online at www.montachusettrta.org.
