Karin Oliveira, Director, Community Builders

Karin Oliveira directs Community Builders, a partnership between United Way of North Central MA, Mount Wachusett Community College and Ashoka: Innovators for the Public. Community Builders provides a website, education, trainings and events to build the capacity and scope of volunteerism.  Fellowships are awarded to foster social entrepreneurism and build social capital throughout the region.

Prior to Karin’s current position at Mount Wachusett Community College, she was directing a volunteer program at a nonprofit agency.  Karin has been involved in the nonprofit sector and community development field for nine years.  Karin has served as president of the Council of Directors of Volunteer Services. Currently, she serves on the Health and Wellness Task Force for Leominster Public Schools, the Board of Directors, the development and strategic planning committees for Battered Women’s Resources, the Day of Caring steering committee for the United Way and the development board for the Shine Initiative at Fidelity Bank.

Karin has been a keynote speaker at several community events and has co-facilitated a workshop nationally at the Points of Light conference on volunteerism and service with world renowned volunteer consultant, Susan Ellis.

Elizabeth Ashmore is the Assistant Coordinator of Community Builders, focused on providing North Central Massachusetts virtual access to volunteer opportunities, community events and regular spotlights of volunteers doing extraordinary work throughout the region. Elizabeth’s prior work as a project coordinator and career transitional specialist at the Grafton Job Corps enhances the quality of Community Builders programming.

Elizabeth was born in Atlantic City New Jersey into a family of 12 brothers and sisters. Helping and inspiring others has always been a passion for Elizabeth. She directs the Children's Musical Group at Centro de Cultura Espirita Amalia Domingo Soler, Inc. The Children's Musical Group conducts events at local nursing homes and holds fundraisers for local shelters.
