Community Scholars: What's it all about?

The Community Scholars kicked off their year by spending a day volunteering with Habitat for Humanity in Gardner, MA, during MWCC's annual Leadership Camp.

 

 

  • Students will earn an Associate's Degree from MWCC with FREE tuition, fees and books for up to 15 credits per semester for two years.
  • The 12 Community Scholar students will be matched with local community agencies to provide up to 1,000 hours of community service over a two-year period.
  • Communities benefit
  • This diverse group of Community Scholars will have a unique opportunity to develop skills, knowledge and values that will allow them to serve as leaders within their communities.
  • Scholars will work with each other, faculty and a staff advisor/mentor throughout the program to assist in their success and to enhance their personal and educational opportunities.
  • Students will benefit from leadership training and professional development, which are critical components in preparing today's students to be the change-makers of tomorrow.
  • Students also become more knowledgeable, self-confident, active and engaged citizens with effective critical thinking skills.
